Frequently asked questions

All you need to know about getting a tattoo with Andrew Scott

Welcome to my FAQ page, your go-to resource for all things tattoo-related! From appointment essentials to aftercare tips, I've got you covered. Explore common questions about preparation, session duration, rates, and more.

1. What should I bring to the appointment?

A water bottle, snacks, and comfortable clothing that can give access to the tattoo.

2. Is there anything I should do before my appointment?

Do not drink heavily or get a sun burn or go tanning. If you want to go the extra mile be well hydrated, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin in the weeks before your appointment. It will make your appointment go more smoothly and your skin will thank you.

3. What if I have melanated skin?

Tattoos work just fine on melanated skin, however I may suggest certain design choices for the sake of clarity in the work. Proper tattoo care is essential for melanated skin that is prone to keloids, please let me know if this is an issue that concerns you.

4. Do you provide second skin/saniderm/dagaderm?

Often. I will have a conversation with you during your appointment to assess whether or not it’s right for you and the project.

5. How long will the session last? How long to complete a project?

Unless otherwise stated you should be prepared to spend at least 8 hours in the shop. This can consist of preparation, breaks, photography etc. as well as the tattoo. Time to complete the project depends on the size, placement and level of detail as well as the condition of your skin (so take good care of your skin!).

Do not schedule important appointments directly after your tattoo session as timing can be unpredictable.

6. How long between appointments for large pieces?

When working on large scale pieces like back pieces and sleeves I recommend at least one month between sessions where work is being done in the same area. This will give your skin enough time to fully heal before causing additional trauma.

Working on different areas of a large tattoo can be scheduled for consecutive days depending on the project.

7. Will you be doing a guest spot in my area?

I love to travel and tattoo. If you don’t see your area on my list of guest spots please fill out an appointment request and tell me you’d like me to visit your area and I will let you know if I can add it to my list of destinations.

8. Where do you tattoo from?

My home shop is LoveMore Tattoo in Vancouver BC, Canada. I frequently guest in Toronto ON, Canada.

9. How do I get an appointment?

Please fill out the request form and wait for my response. The more detailed and  concise information you can give me the easier it will be to facilitate your request.

10. What are your rates?

I charge per piece which requires a consultation to determine a price estimate, however I do have a flat day rate of $1500.00 CAN plus applicable taxes for large pieces. If this is out of your price range you can follow my social media to stay updated on promotions.

11. Should I tip you?/ How much should I tip?/ Do you accept tips?

I love tips, however I don’t want to put someone in a financial bind to get a tattoo or feel forced to tip on top of an already significant base cost. I graciously accept tips in cash, crypto, or sugar free gluten free treats.

12. Should I get a touch up?

I guarantee the quality of my work. If you feel the tattoo needs a touch up within 6 months of the tattoo session I’ll be happy to do it at no cost. If you are not sure whether it needs a touch up you can ask. A touch up is done in case something does not heal as planned, a touch up is not to ‘freshen up the whole thing’.

13. What is your cancellation/reschedule policy?

My deposits are non-refundable and may be returned entirely at my discretion. If you give at least 72 hours notice before rescheduling your appointment I will not penalise you. If you have a legitimate reason for cancellation or reschedule I may be merciful.

14. What is the deposit for?

The deposit secures your appointment and ensures I get paid for time spent in the event that you cancel or reschedule without significant notice.

15. Will I get to see my design ahead of time?

I try to send you a rough design a day or two before your appointment for your review. This is to give you opportunity to give feedback and request any small changes. Any comprehensive redesigns may be subject to renegotiations. This is why it’s important that we be on the same page during the consultation process.

16. Do you do consultations? How much do consultations cost?

Though consults are not always necessary they can often be useful to clarify design choices and get acquainted with my process. Consultations are free and I will happily set one up either in person or over phone/email depending on your preference.

17. Can I pay you to design the tattoo first to see if I like it?

No.

18. But what if I don’t like the design?

I do everything within my power to ensure you get a tattoo you like. If you don’t like the design I want to know about so please communicate and we can work something out. That said, it is important to clearly communicate your design needs ahead of time to avoid confusion. If I don’t feel I’m the right artist for your piece I will tell you.

19. How far ahead do you book?

It varies based on my travel schedule. Please fill out an appointment request for more details.
